What is flyposting?

Flyposting is the illegal posting of adverts or posters. It is unattractive and costs valuable resources of time and money to remove.

Flyposting:

Our duty

We have no legal duty to remove flyposters. However, we will remove or paint over them as necessary.

And we will take enforcement action where appropriate to recover the costs of removing and painting over flyposters.

What other agencies do

The Planning Service have enforcement powers to remove flyposting.

And the Roads Service also remove flyposters from their traffic signs or street lighting.

The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act

We hope that the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act will be extended to include Northern Ireland.

This legislation would help to control the level of flyposting within Belfast.

You can find out more about the act on the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) website.

What we do

We have cleanup teams working in all areas of the city, seven days a week. We aim to remove or paint over flyposters within four working days from the date we are made aware of the flyposters.

You can check our Customer Service Standards for flyposter removal and other street cleaning and waste collection services.
