Nursery places

There are 34 nursery schools and 29 nursery units around Belfast. All of these pre school places are state funded. Children attend morning, afternoon or all day sessions. Each session lasts around 2.5 hours. Preference is always given to children whose parents receive Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance.

There are also private playgroups and nurseries where parents pay for their child’s place. If you receive Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance, you can apply for a state funded morning or afternoon session in a private nursery. Full time pre school places for children are not state funded in private nurseries.
