Non acute hospitals

A non acute hospital provides specialist, expert treatment and care in a medical field such as orthopaedics, psychiatry, surgery, drug or alcohol related illnesses.

There are five non acute hospitals in Belfast: Musgrave Park, Forster Green, Knockbracken Mental Health Services, Muckamore Abbey and Shaftesbury Square. A GP sees the patient and makes a referral to a specialist’s clinic in a hospital. The hospital later contacts the patient to inform them when their treatment will begin.
