Family
Family describes relationships between people who are related to each other by birth, adoption, fostering or marriage.
The traditional family unit includes married or unmarried adults living together and acting as parents or legal guardians of children under 18. The adults might be the natural, adoptive or foster parents to the children. There are also many families with parents no longer living together, and the children live with one parent and see one parent less frequently.
In conventional and less conventional families, parents or legal guardians are responsible for the health, welfare, upbringing and education of their children.
When aged 18, most adult children make career or further education choices and leave the parental home. Young people might also leave to enjoy independent living.
